Ecuador, a perfect destination for a horse riding holiday? If a group of travellers sat down to design a ‘perfect’ destination, they would be hard pressed to come up with a place that would better Ecuador.
Packed like a knee-cap between Peru and Colombia, Ecuador contains within its borders an incredible variety of landscapes and culture. For the mountaineer, it has an epic stretch of the northern Andes, with the Chimborazo reaching 6,267 m. For the jungle explorer, thousands of square kilometres of Amazonian Rain Forest. The sea lovers are rewarded with over 2200 kilometres of Pacific coastline, not to mention the living wonders of the Galapagos Islands. And of course, for horse riding holidays in Ecuador, the horseback rider has the advantage of covering vast tracks of this
wondrous land at their own pace and at a vantage point that walkers\hikers would be extremely envious of!
The entire country is about 283,560 sq km, and it is home to some of the world's most important national parks. Covering as1 little as two hundred miles, the traveller can penetrate all of the mainland's defining regions--the coastal lowlands in the West, the
volcanic central highlands, and the rainforests of the East.
Ecuador's climate is equally kind to the traveller. Embracing the Pacific, Ecuador rests squarely on the equator (hence its name). Here, seasons are defined more by rainfall than temperature. A warm rainy season lasts from January to April, and May through December is characterized by a cooler, drier period that is ideally timed for a summer trip. Tropical along coast, becoming cooler inland at higher elevations; tropical in Amazonian jungle lowlands.
