Horse riding holidays in India offer far more than just a riding holiday.
India is a magical, mystical destination and one that surprises even the most
hardened traveller. With so many World Heritage Sites to visit we recommend
extending your stay after your riding expedition to take in the sights.
Horse riding in India means Mawari Horses, the indigenous horse of India. With
it's rotating curled ears and it's forward going, willingness you will fall in
love with your horse as soon as you set eyes on it.
Most people begin at Delhi and set off for one of the well-known routes. After a
visit to the Taj Mahal and the ghost town of Fathehpur Sikri, Rajasthan offers
an inspiring combination of famous palaces, such as the Palace of the Winds,
fascinating cities such as Udaipur and Jodhpur and impressive temple complexes,
such as the Dilwara Temples at Mt Abu. An absolute must is a visit to the
colourful Pushkar camel and cattle fair and, if it suits you, finish it off with
a camel-ride leaving from the Thar desert town of Jaisalmer.
The Pushkar Fair is a very colourful religious and camel trading fair. For
centuries people have met at the full moon to trade camels, cattle and horses,
accompanied with musicians, magicians and bazaars.
The local villagers have seldom, if ever, seen Europeans and this contact with
an India far from the tourist path is one the most intriguing and exciting
features of the ride.
If you are lucky your trip may coincide with one of the many festivals where
tens of thousands of people converge to pay homage to one of their many deities.
The colours, smells, sounds hit the senses like a runaway train.
Your hosts in India are very proud to have a number of Leopard in the region and
there is a chance that you may spot one on your horse riding holiday. There is
also the chance of taking a night time drive in search of these magnificent
animals during your stay.
