Across The Mountains Ride - Spain

Back

The Sierra de Gredos is one of the most characteristics regions of the Iberian Peninsula.

On this Across The Mountains Ride across the Sierra de Gredos, we will travel on two of these main Cañadas: the Eastern and the Western Cañada Leonesa, that will take us and our horses across the mountains, to the Northern summer pastures in the springtime, and to the Southern winter pastures in fall. And riding those millennial ways we will discover the landscapes of the hidden Spain.

Moving the horses to the summer or the winter pastures, across the Gredos Mountains, is a great journey, where the contrasts in the landscape are just unbelievable: from the grassy holm oak fields and the openness of the Southern plains, to the slopes of the Gredos, with orchards of olive, chestnut and cherry trees, surrounded by stone walls near the villages; the steep valley of the Five villages: Cuevas del Valle, Villarejo del Valle, San Esteban del Valle... we will ride through all of them, admiring their unique architecture, to reach the mountain pass; the 2nd century Roman road across the mountain pass to the alpine pastures and the pristine waters of the Tormes river.

In Spring we ride the horses North across the Gredos mountains. This time of the year there is still snow in the peaks and the wild flowers are in blossom. In the Autumn, we will travel South, enjoying the beauty of the autumn colours and the gentle climate of the Southern valleys.
