7 Day Grizzly Study Pack Horse Trip
Viewing is done from stable Mountain Cayuse horses. Riders access the backcountry like explorers, with personal gear packed on horses. The first and the last nights of the adventure are spent in our guest ranch while the rest of the nights are spent in our permanent alpine camp(s). Trails travelled by Grizzly bears through the mountains are marked with rub trees or territory markers. We collect the hair from these trees, and GPS their locations for subsequent mapping and analyses. The alpine meadows provide favoured summer feeding ranges, and open areas allow for excellent sightings and photographic opportunities
4 Day Grizzly Study Ranch Adventure
Viewing is done by vehicle, returning nightly to our Ranch. We leave early in the morning to catch the Grizzlies feeding on the first fresh shoots and grasses of the spring. This is the time for re-establishing territories, and it is the start of the breeding season. Grizzlies are concentrated in low elevations. Sightings and photographic opportunities are available throughout the day. Collecting hair samples, documenting sightings and tracks, and studying day beds and a winter den are all part of the educational experience.
