Tragedy at the 15th Asian Games Tragedy at the 15th Asian Games

Kim Hyung Chil from South Korea died whilst taking part in the cross country event in Doha.

His horse Bundaburg Black fell on top of Mr Hyung Chil whilst negotiating fence eight at the cross country course. Medics were on the scene to attend to Mr Hyung Chil and he was taken to the Hamad General Hospital where he didn't regain consciousness.

The oldest member of the South Korean Equestrian Team at the age of 54, Kim Hyung Chil had represented South Korea at four previous Asian Games and had won team silver in Busan in 2002.

The cross country competition was halted for two and a half hours whilst a course inspection was carried out by the safety and technical delegates.

The horse, Bundaburg Black, is said to be showing no signs of injury following the fall but is being kept under observation for the time being.

A full investigation will be carried out following the incident.

South Korea has made a winning start to the games, winning individual and team gold medals in the dressage competition
