Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has sent a warning to all horsebox owners that they risk having their vehicle
impounded, reciving a fine and being prosecuted!
If you own a horsebox over 3.5 tonnes
and are successful at the local horse
show and collect prize money then you
NEED to be in possession of an Operators
Licence, even if your winnings are £5.00
It seems that the winnings are
construed by the agency as "hire and
reward" and requires you to have a
special licence. Failure to have this
licence could result in prosecution.
Also, if you offer a friend a lift, or
to help move their horse and receive
'petrol money' you require an operators
licence as VOSA perceives this as
'Hire'.
VOSA will bring a case against anyone
perceived to be breaking these laws
however, it will be for the courts to
decide whether you have acted in a way
that requires an Operators Licence.
